And that’s why it’s so important to me that we’re having this talk tonight about who we are, all of us, as Australians.Īhead on this program tonight – we know there are some great things about being Australian, but there are some hard truths as well. At 17 years old, at school one day, I was confronted by a piece of graffiti scrawled by my classmates that proclaimed, “Marlee Silva sniffs petrol.” It was devastating, one of the worst instances of racism I had faced in school.
